We have an opportunity for a Schools Support Officer to work in partnership with schools to support the education, health and well-being of refugee background students and their families.

The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (VFST) provides a range of services to people in Victoria who have been subject to torture or other traumatic events prior to their arrival in Australia. This group includes refugees and asylum seekers. It is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned.
Schools Support Program works with primary and secondary schools to support staff in their work with students and families of refugee background. Schools Support Officers develop and maintain relationships with teaching professionals whilst working collaboratively within existing program frameworks to implement capacity building and change processes.
We have a part time (.8 EFT) School Support Officer position which will initially work in northern metropolitan Melbourne. You will have a sound understanding of the challenges faced by refugee background young people and their families in primary and secondary education settings. You have an understanding of the role of capacity building and advocacy, and be able to lead and motivate others to implement change. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the Victorian education system and experience in running training and project coordination with school communities.
Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $73,389 gross per annum. Benefits include salary packaging, leave loading, and a range of flexible working options, a highly supportive team environment, excellent training, support and development opportunities.
