Despite the significant mental health needs of many young people with refugee backgrounds, they are under-represented as clients of services. Those who do attend often engage tenuously. This document suggests how practitioners can engage and assist this population, based on the comments and recommendations that young people who were refugees made in research interviews about their experiences of using Australian mental health services. This research study, Project TYRES – Talking with Refugees about Experiences of Services, was conducted by staff at Foundation House.
