Message from the Chair, Lynne Haultain
After an 18-month hiatus, the Foundation House e-newsletter, HouseNotes, is back, bigger and better than ever!
As usual, the Foundation has been a hive of activity and we have much to share with you. We were thrilled to have the Premier of Victoria, The Hon Ted Baillieu MLA, as the special guest speaker at our end of year celebration last December.
Mr Baillieu praised the “exceptional talent” of the hard-working people at Foundation House and their commitment to the “common good”. I believe it is this decency and talent that ensured our more than 4,000 clients last year received the very best services and support from our organisation.
Mr Baillieu also launched the updated edition of School’s In for Refugees and presented the 2011 Quentin Buckle Study Grant Award recipients with their awards.
Our 2010–2011 Annual Report is also now available online for your reading pleasure (see story below). It includes a summary of the past 12 months’ activities, from orations and events, new reports, submissions, partnerships and programs, to moving interviews with three of our younger clients—all of whom are hoping for a better future than their past.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the years of commitment and support we received from Kathleen Walsh, who retired from the Board of Management last year. We also farewelled three of our patrons: Professor Max Charlesworth AO, Professor David Penington AC, and David Scott AO. We offer our sincere gratitude to these very special individuals for their generous participation and commitment to the Foundation.
May 2012 bring peace and safe refuge to all those who need it.
